Memorial Day remembering my lost friends
So long ago and so dear
With the sight and smell of lilacs each year
I grew up with Mike and Duane
Played football with Jim
Baseball with Mikey
Basketball with Larry
Worked with Garry and many more
Now a half century gone
And still we suffer the cost of war
Their hallowed names forever etched in walls
Now beyond all their uncertainty and fear
I remember my beloved lost friends
With the sight and smell of lilacs each year
So long ago and so dear
With the sight and smell of lilacs each year
I grew up with Mike and Duane
Played football with Jim
Baseball with Mikey
Basketball with Larry
Worked with Garry and many more
Now a half century gone
And still we suffer the cost of war
Their hallowed names forever etched in walls
Now beyond all their uncertainty and fear
I remember my beloved lost friends
With the sight and smell of lilacs each year
